Out of the Kiln

Raku - ancient art form - wheel and hand formed pottery - flame reduced in Raku kiln - decorative pieces including metallic and textures - candle holders - vases - bowls - boxes -art forms -buttons - napkin rings - and much more.
Raku, by it nature, is not food safe and should not be used to store or serve edible materials.

Our Raku pieces are formed by heating glazed pottery to around cone 06/04, depending on the glaze and effect desired, in an initially oxidizing, then later slightly reduced fire. The piece is then placed into combustible materials. The materials ignite, more combustibles are added, and the container is covered. Although the container is not completely sealed, the cover is sufficient to reduce the oxygen available to the fire. The reduction process draws the oxygen from the clay and glazes. When the fire has extinguished, the carbon is drawn into the clays and glazes resulting in unique and beautiful clay art.
